Montclair Art Museum
The Montclair Art Museum is a museum in New Jersey especially notable for its collection of Native American art. The museum was established in 1914 and was a front-runner in collecting the works of contemporary American artists. Over the next 100 years, the museum has amassed more than 12000 works.
In 2001, the Montclair Art Museum or MAM underwent a massive expansion. The increased square footage enabled the museum to permanently display its collection of Native American art and artifacts. In July 2020, in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the museum launched virtual art tours. The museum is currently open for business.
Notable Collection
The Montclair Art Museum is currently the only museum in the world that exclusively carries the works of the 19th-century American painter George Inness. The renowned collection of this Montclair resident and highly revered landscape artist contains more than 20 paintings, 2 watercolors and 1 etching. The collection includes works from every important period in his life, including his earliest works from the 1840s.
